The fifth sonata continues the series with a fusion of late Prokofiev’s angular drive and mid-Scriabin’s harmonic mysticism. The surviving sketches suggest an ancient-modern idiom marked by wild harmonic motion, eastern color, and post-romantic intensity.
It stands between ritual and volatility, a work of transition that bridges transcendence and revelation. In its early form, the sonata reflects a language both primal and visionary, reaching toward an unseen culmination.
