The sixth sonata opens with a quick, lightly articulated theme that carries a sense of openness and simplicity. After this introduction the music settles into a calmer section of steady eighth-note motion, creating a suspended, almost hypnotic atmosphere over which broader melodic lines unfold.

Fragments of the opening idea return from time to time, sometimes in darker or more restless forms. The movement alternates between these moments of stillness and tension before gradually fading into a quieter close.

An arpeggiated calm leads to a brief epilogue in which the theme returns more gently, as if viewed from a distance, now colored by brighter chromatic harmonies.
