The sixth sonata opens with an innocent, childlike melody shadowed by uncertainty. Its calm surface gradually deepens into trance-like motion and darker rhythmic tension before returning transformed, bright, responsive, and radiant.
An arpeggiated calm closes the movement, leading to an epilogue that restates the theme in non-diatonic major harmonies reminiscent of Prokofiev’s irony and warmth. The result is a meditation on innocence rediscovered after conflict, where clarity emerges from turmoil.
